YOU can make a difference for horses TODAY – Help stop rollkur!

On February 9, 2010, there will be a Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) closed-door meeting to discuss the practice of hyperflexion, also known as "rollkur."

This highly controversial technique is often employed at the upper levels of dressage training and involves hyperflexing the horse's neck until his chin is almost touching his chest; often the horse is forced to maintain this position for extended periods of time.

Pat and Linda Parelli stand with dressage master Walter Zettl in support of those who denounce rollkur.

Rollkur represents artificiality taken to the extreme and performance put before the good of the horse. Convincing FEI officials to take a stand against rollkur will be a major step forward in ensuring that performance horses worldwide are being ridden and trained without force and mechanics.

Rollkur has a few passionate opponents who will be present at the FEI meeting next week, but they need our support to make an impression on the FEI officials.

If you believe in the Parelli vision to make the world a better place for horses and humans, please add your name to one or both of the following petitions.

Please share these links with your horse-loving friends, family and neighbors. Let's show the FEI that compromising the natural dignity of the horse for the sake of competition is NOT permissible!

http://www.no-rollkur.com The signatories to this petition ask the FEI to oppose the training method of "Rollkur"/Hyperflexion clearly and resolutely. The FEI rules are to be adapted correspondingly to ensure that in future the use of the method of the "Rollkur"/Hyperflexion will be regarded as a violation of these rules.

Register your support to ban rollkur by adding your name to a petition which will be presented by Dr. Gerd Heuschmann - veterinarian, clinician and author of the book Tug of War; Classical versus Modern Dressage - at the FEI meeting on February 9, 2010.

Une ligne fine...

Bonjour!

Need a Loving HorsePerson to help me

I am looking for someone close to Vero Beach/Fellsmere area with nice facilities for a couple of great horses.  My husband is not well and it's time to move on to another area of my life...  horseless.

It will be quite an adjustment.  Anyone out there?

Moving Circles and the Passenger Game

The more I do of the passenger game the more I become fond of it.  Nancy being a RBI/RBE can bounce very quickly between into either extreme.  I was taught some time ago when she is RBE to do moving circles in a large field, she can trot or faster, but not walk.  This has an enourmous calming effect on her and I still use it when she is RBE.  The passenger game has the same effect on her when I am riding.  Anyone who has read all my blogs will know that Nancy gets extremely emotional as she gets faster and in the canter has become so emotional she looses all re

Africa: Our Journey #11 Freestyle Sideways Game

Africa and I are working on Sideways game for Freestyle.  He does a great job on-line, but I think I'm not using the right cues.  Africa gets agitated and acts like he doesn't understand.  We try a couple of times with direct and indirect reins, moving forequarters and hindquarters alternately.  At this time, when he gets one step each way I praise him and we stop.  Maybe I need to try and increase the number of times he is successful before we stop.  It is a fine line between frustrating him and getting practice.  He is amazingly forgiving, so m

I thought Nevada was a high DESERT! Lily's Log #9

It has been raining all day! UGH! I did go out and spend a few minutes with the horses, but I had to run in since the rain was turning to snow and it was getting COLD! Lily did a few very soft yields of her forehand with the driving game at liberty....I was very impressed! Apparently something we did last time made sense! Kiowa was wonderfully responsive, as I have come to expect, and even backed through a squeeze between the fence and the tire feeder with only phase one porcupine game. I am continually awestruck by how talented and willing these formerly wild horses are.

Southern Californians write to the Equine Affaire in Pomona your dissappointment Parelli isn't there.

I've been going to the Equine Affaire in Pomona, CA for the last four years and hate that we don't have any Parelli Demos. Of course I'd love Pat and Linda to be there, but I would still be happy with seeing local instructors and students giving demonstrations. I'm going to write to the vice president and program manager expressing my concerns. Maybe if we all write - something might change.

Below is two email addresses to write:

Equine Affaire, Pomona, CA

This was the first year I spent the night up there, and we stayed in the campground - it is a really nice, clean campground with great showers. Thursday was very relaxing, because it isn't as crowded. Thursday night we watched some of the "Cowboy Challenge" and the second entry was a Parelli student. She did well - and I was really proud of and excited for her.
