Driving Day #2

Daisy ~ July 31, 2010

On Line and Liberty ~ 1 hour

My little Daisy Mae is such a champ.  We started out on the 45 foot, and she cantered and cantered and cantered around.  We did some change of direction and sideways.  Everything looked good!  She has a tendency not to actually do a FLC, but to just counter canter on the circle, but it is a 'play' in progress.

Me and my rollercoaster emotions...

Joining the Savvy Club has taught me many things, but the most important thing I've learned since I've joined is that Canyon is a screaming (or lack thereof) RBI (with LBI moments). This is slightly difficult for me to accept for some strange reason. When I first bought her, she was most definitely extroverted, but as she's settled in, she's gone in the other direction. This is all fine and dandy, believe me, it's just that now I'm having a very hard time deciding if she's going inside her "shell" or if she really is calm.

Small Breakthroughs

This week has been full of small breakthroughs. After a bad session on Monday playing with obstacles, then an awesome one a few hours later, things are now going great. I placed grain on a barrel and the tarp in the roundpen. We practiced sideways around the roundpen. Tug wanted the grain inside so he wasn't paying much attention. When we got inside I drove him to the tarp and we played around it for a few minutes. Then we practiced our turns while driving and then he touched the barrel and ate the grain. We tried the figure 8 pattern but he kept searching for grain on the barrels.

What a good day!

On Line and Liberty ~ 1 hour 30 minutes

I've Got A Feeling....

Tenatively I have started to exercise Bea in hand, vets orders.  No tight turns, no turning on the forehand, definitely no jumping, avoid hard ground, a little trotting, say six or so strides, no circles or sideways, also vets orders.  So what do you do with a horse you can do almost nothing with, she stiff on the hind, striding shorter of the right fore sometimes pottery...nightmare.   Then I remembered something I saw at the FOTH something Pat said about having a horse at your shoulder, not behind you and not in front.  You have this then your horse is acting like

Starting Driving with Daisy

Daisy ~ July 30, 2010

On Line ~ 1 hour

Daisy and I have been playing Level 4 for a while now.  She is a super learner!  We have been doing quite a bit of Z5 driving, so I figured that we could start doing some driving!  I hooked a tire up to her makeshift harness just to see how she would go, and she was fantastic.  She did NOT care that she was pulling anything.  It was amazing!  Daisy took it in stride, like everything else!  I am so proud of that little pony.  :D

Play on,

Playing On Line

Pip ~ July 29, 2010

On Line and Liberty ~ 1 hour 15 minutes

Our play session was very much like the day before, but with more balanced Horsenalities.  When we were playing with 5 laps at the trot, she did it pretty quickly, and didn't get super duper LBI.  Great!  Then we went to the flank rope.  She was super!  Pip stayed mostly LB, so that we fabulous!  I'm very proud of her.   We were able to play with jumping and travelling circles as well.  It was great!

Great ride

I rode my horse Sam in his natural hackamor , We took a canter and everything.  It was great!!
