Cody day ? +1

Well this blog tonight is short and sweet. Today we achieved sideways frim zone one on the ground. Sideways in the saddle, walk, jog passenger and follow the rail. and last but certainly not least I STOOD UP in the saddle!! wow! can't wait to check those off!

62 days, 7hours and 29 minutes till I depart for Colorado!!!!

Cody day?

My last couple days or even weekes with Cody have been wonderful. Before we ride I make sure to spend at least 15 minutes working on the ground. Lots of sideways seems to keep his attention on me, and he loves to touch things with his feet! Most recently we've had a few explosions while riding, he doesnt like to turn, so we are doing lots of weaving, and figure 8s to get him use to it. but after doing Point to point in half the feild I stepped it up to jog, and that went great (except for when he ran into Imp but after 20 minutes he relaized it was just easier to go around him)

Ramp or Step Up.. Opinions?

Hey everyone,

We just bought a 2 horse Sundowner goose neck for our trip to Colorado. But the doors need to be re-done... not a big deal cause we know a welder. But i need to decided whether to keep it a step up. Personally Ive worked with both a couple times. Just wondering what other people thought

Cody: Progress!

The last three days have been fantastic! He stands still for tacking up, and is pretty good about me getting on now. But only when I'm taking my time. If he knows I'm at all excited or have no patients its a whole new ball game.

Cody: Day ??

I have no idea what day we are at! But we've had quite a bit of success lately. I've discovered that Cody loves to jump the barrels!

Since hes a LBE hes quite mouthy and I'm not enjoying it! I've just about got him to respect me on the ground with his biting but the second I get on just to sit there he starts biting at my legs and I don't know how to stop it!

My goals this month are:

1. Follow the rail at walk, possibly jog.

2. Start working at liberty...( its time to spice things up a bit)

days 20-24

Day 20-Day 24

Day 20: I dont remember

Cody: Day 18 leading to Day 19

On day 18 I got super busy all day long and made the big mistake of letting Cod's have the day to relax and not play with me. Which led to the biting and pushing Cody on the morning of Day 19!

Cody: Day 17(I think)

Well, the two computers in my house decided to crash on the same day, so I believe im at Day 17 (yesterday).

Cody and I have just finished thegoing through the level 1 self assessment. Only 2 things we are struggling a bit with. The first is porcupine on the nose. It seem hes doesnt like pressure there...perhaps I'll try just doing alot of friendly game there and playing with the pressure that I use when I rub him! The second thing is Sideways. I'm not even sure what I'm going to do for that. Perhaps alot of driving game. O well I'm going to progress on to L2 where I can!

Cody Day 11 &12

Day 11: well.. if I can remember correctly. I got extreme friendly (including helicopter) we worked on picking up feet and olding it for 30seconds (he needs lots of work there) I did circling game while sitting on the barrel, and introcuded transitions at circling game, both went great! and everyday I've made sure that I at least got on for a minute or so!

Cody day 10: friendly success

Well the sun finally decided to shine here in sothern ontario and I took advantage of it this evening. I got out and worked on getting Cody use to Extreme friendly.... a task that I was so immpatient about, but finally understand the importance of rhythm and calmness! yay!

Also, I got again. Bareback. Tried to do same emergency disengagements but I think we are gonna have to work on porcupine a little bit more before I get those!

Cody: Day 7 & 8 rainy day 9

Lets see...going all the way back to friday... we played, all seven games. I wrote down on a card the self assessment tasks of level one and we went through them. We are having difficutlties with tossing the rope over the neck (or anypart) but I'm sure it will come soon! Circling game was still going to the left, and sideways was something else! Also on friday I started leaning over his back as if I were going to get on. He stayed perfectly still with no tension!! Which led to Saturday..

Cody: Day 6!

We got circling!! We'll to the left, but its a start! The left went so well today I thought Id leave it at that. So we tried squeeze over construction cones (the giant ones) and touch it. All the games are going pretty good now. We are still having some confidence issues with friendly (extreme) but I think it will come soon!

After Cody, I played a bit with Imp. loves to stand on the pedistol so thats what we did today. from liberty I got him to stand on it while I groom him and took care of the few minor kick marks he has from Cody...silly boys

Cody's 2nd - 5th Day. Circling help?

The games are going great. He seems to have the basic porcupine, and driving game. Although the front end is hard still for driving. I think I'm discovering his horse-anality to be a LBE.. but its only day 5 with him. Yo-yo is also great. Hes getting it on phase 2 already!

Cody's First Day...

Today was a day of first with the new horse. We arrived home with him at 5pm last night, and let him and Imp have their seperate spaces for the night and most of today. Nothing exciting happened when I opened the whole feild up for them. This 4 year old is much calmer then my 18 year old was, and I think we are going to have lots of fun with this Parelli Journey. Although It had been less then 24 hours since he'd been home I couldn't resist the want to play.. or at least try! I did 2 serperate sessions of undemanding time first thing this morning.

Suggestions?

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions on introducing a new horse to the one I already have.

Thanks.

Samm

A New Buddy!

I posted yesterday that I was going to go look at a horse today. And I got him. Hes almost  4 years old, and is a Registered Paint gelding! The owner said hes absolutly trained! Call me crazy but I didnt get on! I would like to get him home, and into the parelli system. To be honest not knowing his training is ok with me. I can start from scratch, and work my through the Parelli Program with him.

My goal (and an insane one at that) is to get through levels 1 and 2 with him and have him ready to go to the Fast track Course in CO with me at the end of August!

Ahh....

New Horse?

Tomorrow I'm going to go look at a new horse!! Hes a 3 year young Registered Paint Gelding! who is said to be rideable :S! I'm hoping that he will be my levels horse. I've got less then 5 months to get him up to level 2 because of my fast track course in CO. Imp's heaves arent getting any better, and I dont know what I would do if I brought him and he wasnt able to breathe!

Can't wait till tomorrow

A Butt Kick and Some Thresh Holds

Well this weekend I crossed a thresh hold that has been bugging me for quite a while. Riding on the road with Imp. As he ate some grass saturday morning, I tacked im up, and walked him like a dog towards the road... and down the road probably about 150yards. While on this quiet, yet peaceful walk we stopped a few times, I put my foot in the stirrup then took it out and continued on out journey. Finally about 50yards from home I decided my nerves were calm enough to get on. And knowing the young spooky Imp, this was a big deal for us.

2 serperate issues: Barrel and Heaves?

My contract from work is finally up and just one more week before surgery! What am I gonna do with my time....PLAY PLAY PLAY between a few meetings with my bank for my line of credit. This week my crazy goals are to attempt to video both my L2 online and freestyle.. this should be fun considering Imp's recent love for bucking, and kicking and throwing a temper when I ask him to go over barrel. Any suggestions on how to get this behaviour to stop?

Imp is living up to his name...again

Its been quite the rainy weekend so i have not been able to gather the energy to go outside and play and Imp actually decided to stay in the run-in shed rather then stand in the rain.. hes getting smarter.. but this led to an interesting 2 days.

Yesterday, he decided that it was time to be the next escape artist and unlatch the door on his shelter that leads to a small open field. Luckily mom caught him in action just as the door was only 3 inches wide!

Time vs. Rain

My life right now is a battle with time and the rain we've had. Yes, its spring here in Ontario, and I would really love it if the weather would co-operate with me for once.

Much like my plan to take my Level1 Online, It has been raining for the past 3 days!! MY goal was to have both my Level 2 freestyle and online taped by march 18th to give me plenty of time to decided whether its pass worthy or whether i need to re-do it before my surgery (march 29th) but this thursdays deadline is not looking so great.

Accepted!

So the most exciting thing I could ask for happened today. I am offically being enrolled into the 4-week fast-track course in Pagosa Spring,CO from aug. 30th to sept 24th! I absolutely can not wait to go. So today I thought I'd make a list and get started on what I still need to get done. While doing this I thought "hey why not check out some hotel/inn prices..what the heck cant be too bad" well I must have been crazy. Now I've decided to cut some cost I'd like to find a room mate... however, "who wants to room with a 19 year old?" I now ask myself.
